Invasion surprise Empty Invasion surprise

So, I've been farming this inactive for 2 weeks. No probs.

Then suddenly yesterday, on a routine invasion, all these legends of his with lots of troops wipe me out.

What happened???

As far as I can tell he's still inactive.
